Peter Matheson 1891-1982
Pete was born in Scotland in 1891 and served in the Lovat Scouts during World War I. After that he emigrated and came to Eastern
Montana where he was a cattle and sheep rancher. He farmed for a while near Shepherd, then retired in the 1950's to Red Lodge.
He had not pped in many years (the association between bloody death in the trenches and piping was too great for many of the
WWI pipers) but in the early 50's he got out his pipes again and brushed up his fingering and began playing for the highland
dancers in Miles City, Billings, and Red Lodge. Along with Bill Flockhart, he helped keep Scottish Day at the Festival of
Nations in Red Lodge going for many years
