The Caledonian Pipes and Drums of Billings is a non-profit organization whose stated mission is to preserve the legacy of
Highland piping and drumming, which, although native to the Highlands of Scotland, has been alive in Eastern Montana for five
The band meets in the Band Room at Billings West High School, 2201 St. Johns Ave, every Wednesday night from 6:30 pm to
9:00 PM and offers free piping and drumming instruction to all interested persons.
Prospective members of the band must demonstrate competency on either pipes or drums and then be voted into the band by
the members. Although there is no charge to join, members must provide their pipes and certain pieces of the uniform. It
is the responsibility of each member to maintain issued uniform and equipment to the highest standards and to uphold the band's
image in the community through playing ability, uniformity in dress and any other way that could affect the band's reputation.
The band currently performs in 10-20 parades, highland games, contests, and community events throughout Montana, Wyoming,
Idaho, and Saskatchewan each year. It is a non-profit 501 (c3) corporation and thus can receive tax-deductable contributions.
Usually a reasonable fee is charged for performing depending on nature of the event, travel required, and other expenses incurred.
A certain number of charitable performances are also undertaken each year. Solo pipers and drummers are available for hire
as well. (see "Fee Schedule" page for availability and rates)
